Max, I really don't think this screening process is necessary. This is "advanced" to start off with (no newbies). As so, people should be able to judge the skill levels on each court. I haven't heard of people getting hurt because they made a mistake to play at a higher skill level. I don't want to use a 1/2 hour of my play time to screen everyone. Most people that come know others anyways (know each others skill level). Every time I play there, I see the niches form on their own.

The other thing is this may separate people that want to play together. I could play on some of the higher level courts if I wanted to, but I like to play on the "lower skilled" court. They're not as competitive and more relaxed about game-play.

I think adding one court might solve the problem of people sitting out on it's own. You don't even need to designate courts. Just be careful not to let the RSVP limit get too high.

I think we are asking Owen to do enough. Asking him to arrange and rank it too a lot of work and it's just pickup. Plus the number of players who attend with varying skills will always vary as time passes.

A designated organizer is a great idea but players come in at varying times. An organizer wouldn't have fun.

As for injuries, I have avoided them by not playing next or near people who are out of their element and don't know their position. I've already been kicked by guys who jumped to block at the net. Generally, you will know people are competent to play at a BB level if they understand USAV rules. Those rules also provide alot of rules for safety. If players don't know USAV, they shouldn't be playing on a court of players who know USAV for everyone's safety.

The court addition is a welcome and great to split. I would say use USAV knowledge and BB player competence to be the great divider. At least for everyone's safety.

Here's a thought...is there anyway in the Meetup RSVP to have individuals identify which skill level they want to play in? That way courts can be segregated in advance.

Yes, agree to both. Screening will be too hard to organize.. I think if everyone understood its pick up and we are getting a great rate for how long we play, there is a lot to be happy about. Some days will be good and others wont. Spikers are increasing, so we might be able to dedicate 2 courts for BB+ already.
Rich, Yes we can ask levels from people when they sign up. If there are more intermediates we will have a mixed court.
