There are primarily 5 levels of adult volleyball competitiveness. They are Beginner/Recreational, B, BB, A, and AA. (Well, there are 6 if you add in professional/Olympic.) These are classifications that are used by USAVolleyball, the United States' governing body for adult non-professional volleyball.
We will split our levels as Beginners (Beginners), Recreational (Recreational), Intermediate (B) and Advanced (BB, A and AA). This is an attempt to define these classifications for Valley Forge Sports and Rec meet ups. I encourage you to please reply to this post if you have other suggestions. Beginners - A Beginner is someone who is willing to come and learn the game with other beginners and recreational players and through Clinics. Recreational- A "Recreational" player is an advanced Beginner. A Recreational player should know the basics of volleyball, and played some volleyball before, but he/she is just beginning to bump, set, and spike. B- - A "B" player is still in the early learning stages of the game but knows the skills. A "B" player knows how to bump, set (a little), and spike. But a "B" player has a lot of practice yet to go to be able to do these skills consistently. A "B" player makes mistakes often. BB- A "BB" player knows where to be on the court at all times when plays are developing. He/she knows where to be when the opponent is hitting. A "BB" player knows the footwork of and how to approach hitting effectively. A "BB" player knows how to run a 5-1, a 6-2, and needlessly, a 4-2. To see videos of BB level volleyball click here. A- An "A" player is somewhere between "BB" and "AA". They know all the skills extremely well but cannot always execute the super-high level plays extremely effectively all the time. "A" players can run combination plays in a basic way if passes are good. That includes slides, tandems, x's, crosses, and back-row hitting. AA- Nearly Olympic. Or at least able to dig an Olympic Player's attack hit or able to once in a while put a ball down as a hitter against an Olympic Team. We are also looking for additional courts, organizers etc to help out this winter. Prefferably weekday evenings. If you know of any place or like to volunteer this winter please post a comment below. As far as the new court setup, I think that will be fine. The only thing I would suggest be changed, for Thursdays, is make it "B and above." I think I consider myself BB and there are people I play with, now, that are not as good as me. We generally have this one court that seems to fluctuate between B and BB. I wouldn't want that to change. Everyone wants to get onto the highly competitive court. So, we never have to sit out after a game

Warren, I was thinking two event on Thursday. 1 court B-BB and 2 courts BB and above. (We will call it spikers courts). Hopefully this will eliminate the wait for 1 court.

Mainly I worry about players get hurt or hurting other because of trying to play out of their level. |

Bill, That might be a better idea. Posting two events same night and allowing people to pick their level might create more confusion. Right now center courts is getting mixed with all level players. Since we have 4 courts now and more skipers we can make center court and inner court for spikers.

Other option is to drill the first 20-30 minutes. At 7.30 we will gather and plan the night (designate court levels, teams etc). We will need a volunteer or two who is good at gathering everyone after 30 minutes and help us with this effort. I know Owen is good at this, but he may not be available at 7.30.
